Meet the The Woodlands Team Behind Mainspring Garage Door Co.
We’re the crew that shows up when your garage door won’t budge at six on a Saturday morning, or when you’re staring at a new build and trying to figure out what door actually makes sense for a Texas summer. Every person on this page works out of our The Woodlands location, lives nearby, and has been trained the same way: fix it right the first time, explain what you’re paying for before you pay, and treat the garage like it’s part of the house. Because it is.
Our People
Carl Dutton, Owner
I started Mainspring in 1984, back when The Woodlands was still mostly pine forest and construction crews. Named the company for the mainspring, the coil that carries the full weight of a door - if it fails, nothing else matters. That still guides how we hire and how we work. I’m in the office most mornings, still answer the phone when the lines stack up, and make a point of driving out to jobs that went sideways so I can see what happened myself. I don’t believe in mystery pricing or paperwork that takes longer than the repair. My desk has a coffee cup from 1987 that leaks slightly. I keep it because it still works.
Mike R., Lead Technician
Mike joined us in 2016 after ten years running his own handyman operation in Conroe. He got tired of guessing at electrical work and wanted to specialize in something he could master completely. He’s factory-certified on LiftMaster and Genie openers, and he’s the one we send when a customer has been through two other companies and the door still reverses for no reason. Mike carries a notebook where he sketches spring configurations - says it helps him spot patterns. He lives in Grogan’s Mill with two dogs who bark at garage doors on TV.
Teresa V., Senior Installer
Teresa came over from commercial construction in 2019, where she spent fourteen years hanging industrial roll-up doors for warehouse complexes around Spring and Tomball. She knows steel gauge ratings the way most people know their own phone numbers, and she’s particular about header alignment - won’t sign off on a job until she’s checked it with a laser level twice. Teresa handles our Clopay and Amarr new-door installs, especially the oversized carriage-house styles that have gotten popular in Creekside Park. She keeps a collection of old door hardware in her truck, “for reference,” though she’s never once needed it.
Darnell J., Service Coordinator
Darnell answers the phones, schedules the calls, and makes sure the right parts are on the right trucks before they leave the shop. He started with us in 2021 after managing dispatch for an HVAC company in Houston, and he brought a calm to the job that we didn’t know we were missing. He’s the live voice you get at 2 a.m. when a spring snaps and you’re trying to figure out if the car is trapped until morning. Darnell knows every technician’s strengths, every common part number, and which neighborhoods in The Woodlands have the older Wayne Dalton TorqueMaster springs that always seem to go on holiday weekends. He coaches youth basketball in Panther Creek and refuses to discuss his bracket.
Elena M., Apprentice Technician
Elena started with us in late 2023, fresh from a mechanical program at Lone Star College and a two-year stint maintaining fleet vehicles for a delivery company in Shenandoah. She’s working toward her full journeyman certification under Mike’s supervision, and she’s already taken over most of our cable and roller replacements - the kind of straightforward jobs that let her build speed without cutting corners. Elena asks more questions than any apprentice we’ve had, which means she’s learning fast. She lives in an apartment near Hughes Landing and has been trying to convince her landlord to let her replace the building’s ancient Craftsman opener. So far, no luck.
One Standard, Every Job
Every person on this page, from owner to apprentice, works under the same agreement we put in writing on every invoice: the 90-Day Done Right Promise. If something we fixed or installed isn’t right, we come back. No forms to fill out, no manager to escalate to, no argument about whether the issue is “covered.” We also don’t start work until you’ve seen the flat price and agreed to it. That’s not a sales tactic; it’s how you avoid surprises on the bill.
Our trucks leave the The Woodlands shop stocked with springs, cables, rollers, and openers from the brands we service - LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Genie, Clopay, Amarr, Wayne Dalton, Craftsman, Raynor - so most jobs finish in a single visit. If we need to order something, we’ll tell you before we start, not after we’ve taken the door apart. And when you call (346) 682-0797, a real person answers, 24 hours a day, including nights, weekends, and holidays. No phone tree, no voicemail, no after-hours answering service reading from a script they don’t understand.
We’ve been at this since 1984. The Woodlands has changed plenty since then. The standard hasn’t.
